Session Overview: This opening session showcases scientific research in trace evidence analysis, pattern interpretation, and fire investigation. Presentations will highlight innovative analytical techniques, statistical approaches to pattern evidence, and emerging technologies that enhance the scientific rigor of these forensic disciplines. 

Goals: 

  • Present advances in trace evidence detection, collection, and analysis methodologies
  • Demonstrate the application of physics principles and statistical methods to pattern interpretation
  • Showcase research improving the scientific foundation of fire origin and cause determination
  • Highlight interdisciplinary approaches that bridge multiple forensic disciplines
