Can You Predict Lethal Intimate Partner Violence? Expert Chat Webinar, NIJ and Harvard's Government Innovators Network

The focus of the presentations is on the Danger Assessment (DA) tool used by the Baltimore Police Department (Maryland) in determining an IPV victim's risk for future violence by the perpetrator. One presentation reviews the history and features of the DA tool, which was developed in 1985 to increase battered women's ability to make decisions and take actions based on their risk for future and escalating victimization by the perpetrator. This review includes a discussion of the DA's reliability and validity based on testing and refinement. A second presentation addresses the implications of the DA tool for criminal justice policy and practice. The third presentation describes how the DA tool is being used by the Baltimore Police Department in managing IPV cases.
