Video: Incorporating Research and Data Into Criminal Justice Agencies - NIJ LEADS Alumni Spotlight

In his experience as a LEADS Scholar, his first focus was on gun violence, specifically evidence-based practices in managing offenders and target hardening for victims. In examining the dynamics of places where gun violence occurs, his research evolved into a focus on the opioid epidemic. One of the key partnerships that developed from the LEADS Program was "event review" of overdose fatalities. The Minneapolis police worked with public health partners at both local and state levels. Partners from NIJ also provided guidance in these efforts. After graduating from the LEADS Scholars program, Sergeant Egge focused on investigative closures, with attention to how much opioid abuse and homelessness are impacting investigations.
