This report to the U.S. Congress, Committee on the Judiciary, presents information on the work of the National Institute of Justice's Forensic DNA Backlog Reduction Program.
Abstract
For fiscal year 2010, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) awarded 115 grants to local and State governments totaling $64,811,981 as part of the FY 2010 Forensic DNA Backlog Reduction Program. This report to the U.S. Congress, Committee on the Judiciary, from the U.S. Attorney General is required as part of the DNA Analysis Backlog Elimination Act of 2000 and includes: 1) data on the aggregate amount of Debbie Smith DNA Backlog Grant Program grants made to each local and State government unit for the most recent fiscal year; 2) a summary of the information provided by States and local governments who have received grant funds for the most fiscal year; and 3) a description of the priorities and plan for awarding grants to eligible States and local governments, along with information on how the plan will ensure the effective use of DNA technology for law enforcement efforts.
