This is the video of Dr. Michael Baden's address on the impact of science on the field of criminal justice, which was delivered at the National Clearinghouse for Science, Technology, and the Law, Stetson College of Law, Gulfport, Florida, in January 2004.

Abstract

Michael M. Baden, M.D., Chief Forensic Pathologist for the New York State Police and former Chief Medical Examiner of New York City, discusses infamous murders and the role of science in well-known death investigations. Dr. Baden has been involved as an expert in many cases of national and international interest, including: serving as Chairman of the Forensic Pathology Panel of the U.S. Congress Select Committee on Assassinations during the investigations of the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King; examination of the remains of Tsar Nicholas of Russia and the Romanov family in Siberia; the examination of mass graves in Serbia/Croatia; investigations in Israel into custodial deaths in Gaza and the West Bank; the exhumation of Civil Rights Leader Medgar Evers; and the deaths of John Belushi, Billy Martin, and Las Vegas casino mogul Lonnie "Ted" Binion (State of Nevada v. Tabish and Murphy). He has also served as an expert witness for the defense in many criminal cases, including the murder trials of Marlon Brando's son, of Claus Von Bulow, and of O.J. Simpson. Dr. Baden has been published in many national and international medical and forensic journals, as well as factual accounts of several of his cases in "Dead Reckoning--The New Science of Catching Killers" and "Unnatural Death--Confessions of a Medical Examiner."
