Abstract
The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) collects and analyzes data concerning crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems
in the United States. This CD-ROM from BJS is a compilation of 19 studies that offer statistical
information on a wide range of criminal justice topics. Among the studies offered in this 2 disk
CD-ROM are: the National Crime Victimization Survey: School Crime Supplement, 1995 and 1999, which offer information about school related victimization on a
national level. Criminal Victimization and Perceptions of Community Safety in 12 United States
Cities, 1998, providing city-level information on criminal victimizations, perceptions, and satisfaction with local police. Directory of Law Enforcement
Agencies, 1996, presents data on the number of sworn and nonsworn personnel employed by each agency in the United States, including both full-time and part-time
employees. National Judicial Reporting Program, 1996,
offers information on the sentences convicted felons received in State courts in 1996. Capital Punishment
in the United States, 1973-1999, provides annual data on prisoners under a sentence of death, as well as those with commuted or vacated sentences and prisoners who were executed. Police Use of Force Data, 1996, gives preliminary estimates of the prevalence of citizen contact with the police, including contacts in which police used force. National Crime Victimization
Survey, 1992-1999, offers data on personal and household victimization from a nationally
representative sample. State Court Processing Statistics, 1990, 1992, 1994, and 1996: Felony Defendants in Large Urban Counties, presents data on felony cases filed in approximately 40 of the nation's
75 most populous counties. Survey of Inmates in State and Federal Correctional Facilities, 1997, provides nationally representative data on State prison inmates and sentenced Federal inmates
held in Federally owned and
operated facilities. Survey of Inmates of Local Jails, 1996,
provides nationally representative data on persons held prior to trial and on those convicted offenders
serving sentences in local jails or awaiting transfer to prison.
