Abstract

This document lays out the highlights of the November 2016 Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative (Global) Advisory Committee (GAC, the Committee) Meeting. Attendees included subject-matter experts (SME), representatives from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Department of Justice (DOJ), and other public safety executives, practitioners, and key stakeholders from all levels of government. The document notes that the meeting was presided over by GAC chairman Thomas Clarke, along with Mike Milstead, Denise O’Donnell, Kristen Mahoney, and Patrick McCreary. The document provides descriptions of the various presentations and discussions during the meeting on the following topics: mental health, Global Task Teams, the opioid abuse and heroin epidemic, human trafficking, intelligence-related priorities and activities, justice reform initiatives through the use of data and analysis, cyber threats and cybersecurity, key justice information sharing (JIS) activities, FirstNet and other related information technology, Global-supported resources for the field, the importance of outreach, Global business issues and leadership elections; and the concluding Roundtable’s discussion on future efforts to address violent crime, opioid abuse, the connection between sex trafficking and other issues, staff retention, cybercrime, outreach, and Global solutions for rural communities.
