These publications are entitled, "Legal Issues Related to Elder Abuse: A Pocket Guide for Law Enforcement" and a more detailed companion document entitled, "Legal Issues Related to Elder Abuse: A Desk Guide for Law Enforcement." These guides were developed under the guidance of an advisory committee that includes representatives of law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, and community corrections. The pocket guide provides explanations of legal concepts, documents, and tools that may be misused to commit elder abuse, or when used properly, to remedy it. The guide suggests issues and actions that justice system professionals can consider if they suspect elder abuse has occurred. Sample topics include types of elder abuse, power of attorney, joint owners/joint accounts, guardians/conservators, and considerations for community corrections officers. The more detailed guide provides more information on topics covered in the pocket guide.
