Abstract

This NIJ Fact Sheet, developed by the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC), provides information on NIJ's Sensor, Surveillance, and Biometric Technologies Center of Excellence (SSBT CoE). The SSBT CoE is operated by ManTech International Cooperation in support of NIJ's research and development efforts. This Fact Sheet highlights the services offered by the Center, such as identifying technology and operational requirements, supporting NIJ's research and development programs, supporting the adoption of new technology, developing technology guidelines and standards, and testing, evaluating, and demonstrating technologies. Systems currently being investigated by SSBT CoE are long range 3D facial recognition, facial matching with feature annotation, through-the-wall-surveillance systems, a crowd behavior video analytics tool, and a body cavity screening device. Additional projects currently being conducted at the SSBT CoE deal with latent print interoperability, the evaluation of contact versus contactless fingerprint data, the assessment of gun safety technology, and the use of body worn cameras for criminal justice.
