Data-Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS) is a software that uses analyses of location-based crime and traffic data to facilitate cost-effective deployment of law enforcement resources. DDACTS uses data collection, analysis, and geographic information system (GIS) mapping to identify areas that have a high incidence of crime and traffic crashes. It then uses traffic enforcement strategies that target those areas. The presence of patrol cars in a traffic corridor can make motorists more attentive to their driving, which can reduce traffic crashes and deter would-be criminals traveling those corridors to and from crime scenes. DDACTS is a fluid, flexible type of approach that can be adapted by any law enforcement agency, regardless of size or resources. DDACTS can be a helpful tool as law enforcement agencies face increasing demands with fewer resources. Information is provided on workshops that provide training in using DDACTS.
