This report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) presents information on 2013-2014 data collection activities required under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003. During each calendar year, BJS is required to carry out a "comprehensive statistical review and analysis of the incidence and effects of prison rape." For the period 2013 to 2014, the following surveys were conducted: the Survey of Sexual Violence (SSV), which collects data from administrative records on the incidence of sexual victimization in adult and juvenile correctional facilities; the National Survey of Youth in Custody (NSYC), which provides facility-level estimates of youth reporting sexual victimization in juvenile facilities; and the National Inmate Survey (NIS), which collects data on the prevalence and incidence of sexual assault in adult prison and local jail facilities, as reported by inmates. Highlights of the findings from each of these surveys are presented in this report. A listing of previously released reports is included.
