The report presents preliminary estimates from the redesigned National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS-R) instrument. It provides preliminary violent and property victimization estimates, which may change when BJS publishes final estimates from the 2025 NCVS in Criminal Victimization, 2025 (forthcoming in 2027). The NCVS is administered to persons age 12 or older from a nationally representative sample of U.S. households. The survey collects information on nonfatal personal and household property crimes, including those that are reported and not reported to police. BJS fully transitioned to the NCVS-R in January 2025. The NCVS-R estimates are not comparable to legacy NCVS estimates.
