This resource guide on what to do in case of sextortion provides a step-by-step breakdown of actions for victims of sextortion to take, with additional links and phone numbers to national organizations and space for local organizations to provide their contact information.

Abstract

This Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) informational guide for victims of sextortion provides instructions for what to do, starting with what to do about the offender, securing digital accounts by changing passwords and updating or increasing privacy settings, notifying local police or talking to a trusted family member or school staff-member, notifying the cybertipline, and avoiding a “service” to investigate the case. The guide informs that services that are offered by third parties to investigate sextortion cases may also be scams, or even related to the original offenders, and that sextortion victims should only report the case to law enforcement. The resource guide also provides contact information for free, trusted resources such as the FBI, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, ICAC, the National Crisis Hotline, and other local law enforcement and community-based agencies.
