Abstract
In addition to the ballistic-resistant body armor testing program operated by the National Institute of Justice’s (NIJ’s) National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC)-National, seven other law enforcement equipment-testing programs are operated. These programs fall into two groups: standards-based testing and comparative evaluation or field training. Within standards-based testing, the programs cover, ballistic-resistant body armor, stab-resistant body armor, double-locking metallic handcuffs, and semiautomatic pistols. Within comparative evaluation, evaluations were conducted on patrol vehicles, patrol vehicle tires, replacement brake pads, and cut-, puncture-, and pathogen-resistant protective gloves.
