On September 30, 1988, the 64th session of the Administrative Advanced Latent Fingerprint School (AALFS) was completed at the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy in Quantico, Va.
Abstract
Since its initiation in 1969, more than 1,250 fingerprint experts have successfully completed the AALFS course. AALFS offers participants both laboratory and classroom instruction in fingerprint sciences. Participants are provided with the training to evaluate, compare, and identify latent prints and to testify during judicial proceedings with clarity, credibility, and persuasiveness. In addition to conducting latent print comparisons and participating in a moot court, students are provided with training in communication arts and instructional techniques, the rules of evidence, organizational management and operation of a latent prints section, and offender personality profiling. Due to the individualized instruction and available facilities, each class is limited to 20 students. Students must be fingerprint experts for a duly authorized law enforcement agency or laboratory and must have completed a basic fingerprint classification and an advanced latent fingerprint course. 1 reference.
