This document provides abstracts and citation information for the research papers and posters presented at the Forensic Science Research and Development Symposium.

Abstract

This program aims to direct the findings of basic scientific research; research and development in broader scientific fields applicable to forensic science; and ongoing forensic science research toward the development of highly discriminating, accurate, reliable, cost-effective, and rapid methods for the identification, analysis, and interpretation of physical evidence for criminal justice purposes. The document provides a listing of research presented at the 2023 National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Forensic Science Research and Development Symposium, divided into oral presentation and poster sessions, each of which is divided into the following topics: Session I, impression and pattern evidence/trace evidence; Session II, forensic anthropology and forensic pathology; Session III, seized drugs and toxicology; and Session IV, forensic biology/DNA.
