THIS BOOKLET PRESENTS GUIDELINES FOR JOB-RELATED SELECTION AND GIVES PROJECT SUMMARIES OF PROJECTS AND RESEARCH STUDIES IN THE AREA OF JOB-RELATED SELECTION PRACTICES.
Abstract
THE FIRST SECTION DISCUSSES WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR SELECTION PRACTICES TO BE JOB-RELATED AND VALID. THE NEXT SECTION IDENTIFIES THE ROLE OF MANAGEMENT AND ITS IMPACT ON EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY (EEO) PROGRAMS. THIS SECTION ADDRESSES FACTORS WHICH SHOULD BE CONSIDERED IN ATTEMPTING TO IMPROVE EEO PROGRAMS FOR POLICE AND FIREFIGHTER PROGRAMS. THE THIRD SECTION CONSISTS OF A GUIDE WHICH DEALS WITH CONDITIONS AND TECHNIQUES FOR ADEQUATE JOB ANALYSIS, WHICH IS THE NECESSARY BASE FOR APPROPRIATE SELECTION PRACTICES. THE FOURTH SECTION CONSISTS OF PROJECT SUMMARIES, SOME OF WHICH ILLUSTRATE JOB ANALYSIS APPROACHES, OTHERS TO APPLICANT APPRAISAL METHODS AND DEVICES. THE FINAL SECTION IS A SELF EVALUATION CHECKLIST TO DETERMINE THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF SELECTION PRACTICES.
