POLICIES AND PROCEDURES GOVERNING PUBLIC SCHOOL SECURITY IN ALBUQUERQUE, N. MEX., ARE SET FORTH IN A HANDBOOK PREPARED FOR SECURITY PERSONNEL AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
Abstract
THE HANDBOOK OPENS WITH A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS' SECURITY DEPARTMENT AND AN EXPLANATION OF THE DEPARTMENT'S PHILOSOPHY, OBJECTIVES, AND SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS. THE FOCUSES OF THE DEPARTMENT'S ACTIVITY ARE THE PROVISION OF A POSITIVE EDUCATIONAL CLIMATE; THE PREVENTION OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY; AND THE PROTECTION OF TEACHERS, STUDENTS, AND SCHOOL PROPERTY. RULES GOVERNING STUDENT CONDUCT IN SCHOOL AND ON SCHOOL BUSES ARE SET FORTH. THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF EACH OF THE SECURITY DEPARTMENT'S PERSONNEL CATEGORIES (INVESTIGATORS, ON-SITE SECURITY OFFICERS, PATROLS, DISTRICT ATTORNEY LIAISON, TACTICAL SQUAD, DISPATCHERS) ARE SUMMARIZED. THE SCHOOL SYSTEM'S INTRUSION ALARM SYSTEM AND RELATED PROCEDURES ARE EXPLAINED, TOGETHER WITH PROCEDURES FOR SUMMONING ASSISTANCE IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS AND FOR ARRANGING SECURITY COVERAGE AT SPECIAL EVENTS. THE HANDBOOK ALSO PROVIDES INFORMATION ON RECOVERING STOLEN EQUIPMENT, SECURITY OFFICER TRAINING, K-9 PATROL, A CITIZENS' SCHOOL-WATCH PROGRAM, REPORTING VANDALISM AND BURGLARY, NATURAL DISASTER PROCEDURES, AND A LIVE-ON-CAMPUS PROGRAM (FREE MOBILE HOME SITES FOR PERSONS WHO ASSIST IN PROTECTING SCHOOL PROPERTY).
