Abstract

First, the National AMBER Alert coordinator unveils an ambitious plan to save abducted children. Second, notes and highlights from the 2006 National AMBER Alert Conference are presented including the Endangered Person Advisory, the role of the Child Abduction Response Team, the Emancipated Missing Children Project, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Third, the coordinated effort of Tribal police chiefs, AMBER Alert coordinators, and other law enforcement officers in bringing AMBER Alerts to Tribal communities is briefly highlighted. Fourth, representatives from Mexico, Canada, and the United States met to address international child abductions at the Border Issues Conference held in New Mexico. Fifth, updates are presented on the release of the first commemorative AMBER Alert stamp, and the pilot program allowing employees at the U.S. Department of Justice to receive AMBER Alerts by email. Sixth, the National AMBER Alert Awareness Day (January 13, 2007) is highlighted with press conferences, special media releases, and other events to increase public awareness of the AMBER Alert program, and the encouragement of the public to participate in safely recovering missing children. The final article announces the winner of the “Bringing Our Children Home” poster contest, a young girl from Missouri. This issue concludes with additional important information, resources, and events related to the AMBER Alert program.
