This report presents drug abuse information collected through the Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) for the calendar year 1985.
Abstract
The data represented in this report reflect the facilities which participated in DAWN during all or part of the year. Results show that a total of 733 hospital emergency rooms (ERs) reporting 105,699 episodes involving 172,885 drug mentions were reported, while 73 medical examiner (ME) facilities reporting 3,562 deaths were affiliated with the DAWN system and 7,988 drugs were mentioned in connection with these deaths. Chapters 2 and 3 summarize the information collected from ERs and MEs at the total DAWN system level. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 focused on the episode and drug mention patterns for each of the 27 metropolitan areas within the DAWN system. The chapter 4 tables are displayed alphabetically according to metropolitan areas; the chapter 5 tables are displayed according to selected therapeutic classes; and the chapter 6 tables are displayed according to individual drug categories. A "Highlights" section presents selected findings from each of the chapters. Supplementary tables containing mention rates for selected drugs are included. A list of the counties constituting the DAWN metropolitan areas has been included. Tables and appendixes
