This annual report for the Bureau of Parole within New Jersey's Department of Corrections, covering the July 1992- June 1993 period, identifies goals and objectives of the bureau and reviews bureau operations and programs.
Abstract
The Bureau of Parole has five objectives: (1) assure that persons released to parole supervision have a physical environment that enhances prospects for successful community adjustment; (2) assist persons under parole supervision in obtaining employment, education, or vocational training; (3) employ appropriate community resources to prevent further incarceration; (4) take action against persons under parole supervision who seriously or persistently violate release conditions; and (5) maintain and improve bureau operations. Significant needs and issues faced by the bureau during 1993 included parole officer/parolee ratios, institutional parole offices in State institutions, fiscal management, parole substance abuse treatment, psychological services for parolees, case monitoring, space needs, training, and research. Accomplishments of the bureau during 1993 are noted, and parole operations and programs are reviewed. The report provides data on the bureau's fiscal management, as well statistics on parole caseloads, returns to institutions, missing cases, and supervision. Tables and figures
