This 1985 annual report of New York City's Arson Strike Force, which has coordinated the city's antiarson efforts since 1978, highlights the accomplishments of 1985, the fifth consecutive year in which arson declined, and identifies some of the problems remaining.
Abstract
A narrative summary and graphic data portray citywide arson trends from 1966 through 1985. Data cover the percentage of structural fires classified as incendiary, structural arson by month for various periods, and arson categories for 1980-1985. A survey of 1985 arson and fire prevention literature considers such topics as the creation of an arson strike force, arson-reporting immunity laws, and the impact and treatment of juvenile arson. Other data address boroughwide arson trends, arson arrests, and arson fatalities. Descriptions of the work of antiarson community groups are followed by data on community district arson trends. Reference data cover citywide data, boroughwide data, arrest data, fatality data, and community district data.
