Abstract
Knowledge domains of the instructional unit concern the legality of a commitment to custody, the police officer's responsibilities during intake, laws governing the humane treatment of prisoners, laws pertaining to assaulting prisoners, standards for booking certain types of prisoners, securing weapons before entering a jail, and procedures for booking injured or sick prisoners. Additional knowledge domains deal with body searches, conditions of conducting a strip search, constitutional rights of prisoners, the prisoner's right to telephone calls, and punishment for eavesdropping on or recording prisoners. Supporting materials include references to California's Penal Code and Welfare and Institutions Code.
