The curriculum contained here is designed as a guideline for the delivery of performance-based law enforcement training as part of the California Commission on Peace Office Standards and Training basic course guidelines system.
Abstract
This curriculum module focuses on custody. Specific topics covered include legality of commitment to custody, laws governing the humane treatment of arrested persons, laws pertaining to assaults and punishment of prisoners, weapons control within local detention facilities, and officer responsibilities during intake. The curriculum also discusses medical prescreening of arrested persons, arrestees who may require special care or classification, physical searches of arrested persons, rights of arrested persons to telephone calls and privileged communications, and the follow-up responsibilities of custodial personnel.
