This document presents the curriculum guidelines, developed by California law enforcement trainers and criminal justice educators in cooperation with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, for use in training police officers regarding illegal uses of criminal justice information systems.
Abstract
Individual sections present information regarding the detection of computer crimes involving tampering, interfering, damaging, or obtaining unauthorized access to information. Additional sections focus on the unlawful release of State Criminal Offender Record Information, the unlawful release or receiving of local Criminal Offender Record Information, and appropriate and inappropriate computer matches to an inquiry regarding a person or property. Further guidelines explain the information available in California and Federal criminal justice information systems regarding persons, vehicles, vessels, property, and firearms and how access is obtained to each system. 2 references
