Developed by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, this curriculum is designed to help students recognize weapon violations, identify weapon- related crimes by their common names, and classify crimes as felonies or misdemeanors.
Abstract
Topics covered by the curriculum include drawing or exhibiting a firearm or weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, possession of a switchblade knife, possession of a firearm by certain prohibited persons, carrying a concealed firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm. The curriculum also covers the manufacture, sale, possession, or import of a deadly weapon; altering firearm identification marks; possession of tear gas and other chemical agents; weapons on school grounds; exceptions to concealed firearm law; possession of a deadly weapon with intent to assault; and unsafe firearm storage. Tests and learning activities are included, and relevant sections of California's Penal Code are cited.
