This fact sheet reviews the fiscal year 2016 funding and technical assistance provided by the U.S. Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) under the Federal Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Policy and Implementation Program.

Abstract

Over a period of 2 years, BJA has provided approximately $41 million to the BWC Policy and Implementation Program in responding to the needs of State, local, and tribal law enforcement organizations in funding and implementing BWC equipment, training, and implementation. This program has significantly expanded with BJA's FY 2016 additional awards to 106 agencies, bringing the 2-year total to 17 awards. Applicants have requested about $85 million in Federal funds and sought the purchase of over 86,000 cameras. The selected training and technical assistance provider, CNA, assists BJA by providing guidance, oversight, training, data collection, research analysis, and performance management to grantees and non-grantees. One of the BWC technical resources provided is the BJA Body-Worn Camera Toolkit, which is an online resource for stakeholders. It includes lessons learned for implementation, model policies and procedures, and research material. A table portrays the name of each funding recipient and the amount received for FY 2016.
