The planar inverted F-antenna (PIFA) described in this article uses a combination of two bandwidth enhancement techniques: patch tapering and the T-shaped ground plane-in conjunction with a capacitive feeding mechanism.
Abstract

The resulting impedance bandwidth of this PIFA is about 35- and average gain is more than 4-dB within the United States Public Safety (PS) band (700-900-MHz). The radiation pattern remains almost unchanged over this wide frequency range, with good agreement between experimental and simulated results. (Publisher abstract modified)
