Tables identify selected characteristics for the 101,808 inmates housed in California's Department of Corrections' institutions on December 31, 1991.
Abstract
This report presents data by area and county and on controlling offense by institution and commitment type in addition to information on age, racial/ethnic group, and parole/outpatient return status by institution and by commitment type. Of the 100,590 known offenses, 42,566 were categorized as violent offenses, 26,543 as property offenses, 24,644 as drug offenses, and 6,837 as other offenses. California's inmate population of 95,506 men and 6,302 women numbers 29,770 white inmates, 35,205 black inmates, 31,824 Hispanic inmates, and 5,009 inmates of other racial/ethnic groups. 11 tables
