Abstract
THESE CANONS EXPLAIN THE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY OF THE POLICEMAN'S JOB, THE LIMITATIONS OF HIS AUTHORITY, HIS RESPONSIBILITY TO BE FAMILIAR WITH THE LAW AND WITH THE DUTIES OF OTHER GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, THE NECESSARY RECONCILEMENT OF MEANS TO ENDS, AND THE NEED TO COOPERATE WITH OTHER PUBLIC OFFICIALS. THEY FURTHER GIVE GUIDELINES FOR THE POLICEMAN'S PRIVATE CONDUCT, HIS CONDUCT TOWARDS THE PUBLIC, CONDUCT IN ARRESTING AND DEALING WITH LAW VIOLATORS, GIFTS AND FAVORS, THE PRESENTATION OF EVIDENCE IN AN IMPARTIAL MANNER, AND HIS ATTITUDE TOWARDS HIS PROFESSION.
