THE DATA IN THIS REPORT COVER REPORTED INMATE CHARACTERISTICS AT THE TIME OF COMMITMENT AND INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING SELECTED ITEMS: REASON FOR COMMITMENT, COUNTY OF COMMITMENT, RACE OR NATIONALITY, MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM SENTENCE, DANGEROUS DRUG USAGE, EDUCATION, PRIOR ADULT CRIMINAL RECORD AND PRESENT AGE. IN ADDITION, SUMMARY FIGURES ARE SHOWN FOR ALL INSTITUTIONS COMBINED AND FOR BOTH SEXES ALONG WITH PERCENT DISTRIBUTIONS. SUMMARY TOTALS ARE ALSO PROVIDED FOR THE FOUR BASIC TYPES OF CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS: GENERAL CONFINEMENT, RECEPTION AND CLASSIFICATION, CAMPS AND SPECIALIZED FACILITIES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
