A REPORT ON THE STATUS OF RESEARCH ON CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT INCLUDING A COPY OF THE CHILD ABUSE ACT AND AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY.
Abstract
THE INITIAL SECTION OF THE REPORT PROVIDES A DISCUSSION OF THE BROAD PROBLEMS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT AND RELATED RESEARCH AND DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS. THE BACKGROUND OF OUR PRESENT PERCEPTION OF THE PROBLEM AND PAST DIFFICULTIES OF DEFINITION AND SOLUTION IS PRESENTED ALONG WITH A FOCUS ON THE MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PARENT, CHILD, SITUATION, AND ABUSE. PROBLEMS OF DETERMINING THE EXTENT OF CHILD ABUSE, DIAGNOSING, REPORTING, AND RECORDING ITS INCIDENCE ARE DISCUSSED. A DESCRIPTION OF PREVENTIVE AND REMEDIAL PROGRAMS IS ALSO PROVIDED. INFORMATION ON FEDERALLY FUNDED RESEARCH IS PRESENTED IN ABSTRACT FORM.
