AN EXAMINATION OF THE PROJECT IN TERMS OF EVALUATION CRITERIA SUCH AS INCIDENCES OF PERSONS SEEKING TREATMENT OR THE NUMBER OF REPEAT ARRESTS, WITH A PRESENTATION OF OTHER STATISTICAL PROJECT EVALUATION DATA.
Abstract
THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO IMPLEMENT A COORDINATED, COUNTYWIDE PREVENTION-REMEDIATION AND EDUCATION PROGRAM TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF THE PROBLEM OF DELINQUENCY AND PROVIDE CONSTRUCTIVE ALTERNATIVES TO DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR FOR ADULTS AND YOUTH. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PROJECT WAS SUCCESSFUL IN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASING THE INCIDENCES OF PERSONS ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN SEEKING TREATMENT FOR DRUG AND ALCOHOL PROBLEMS. ALSO, THE NUMBER OF REFERRALS, CONVICTIONS, AND ARRESTS FOR DRUG AND ALCOHOL VIOLATIONS FIRST INCREASED DUE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT EFFORTS AND THEN DECREASED SUBSTANTIALLY IN 1974. THE PROJECT WAS ALSO FOUND TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN INCREASING THE NUMBER OF PERSONS INVOLVED IN COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAMS TO PREVENT DELINQUENCY. STATISTICAL INFORMATION ON CLIENTS TREATED, ARREST, REFERRALS, AND CONVICTION RATES, AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN THE PROGRAM IS ALSO PRESENTED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
