This article discusses how the use of effective communication techniques can help managers minimize personal problems and create harmonious work environments.
Abstract
Managers using effective communications skills and techniques to create productive work environments is the focus of this article. Addressing that people communicate on both content and emotional levels, the author argues that managers who can identify and control emotions are those who are most effective at maintaining self-control, understanding their employees, and using active listening skills to change employees’ behaviors. By demonstrating empathy and satisfying employees’ needs, good managers convey that they understand and care about their employees, according to this author. This article further argues that by effectively using active listening skills, managers promote clarification and give their employees opportunities to reassess their own positions. The author concludes that the most successful managers are flexible, non-threatening, creative, patient individuals who are extremely good listeners.
