Abstract
THIS STUDY ATTEMPTED TO FOLLOW INDIVIDUALS ARRESTED BY THE GAINESVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR FELONIES THROUGH THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM UNTIL CHARGE DISPOSITION. DATA FROM POLICE FILES, COURT RECORDS, AND THE FILES OF THE OFFICE OF THE STATE ATTORNEY WERE USED. AMONG THE DISPOSITION CATEGORIES REPORTED ARE GUILTY, PRETRIAL INTERVENTION, PLEA BARGAINING, INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE, SPEEDY TRIAL RULE, COURT DISMISSAL, INCOMPETENCE OF THE ACCUSED, AND THE VICTIM DECLINING TO PROSECUTE.
