Abstract
In July 1992, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations recognized by resolution that effective international action in crime prevention and criminal justice requires improved coordination of the activities carried out by the various United Nations entities involved in crime prevention and criminal justice. The Council requested that the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice take on the responsibility of coordinating those activities. To assist the Commission, the Secretary-General prepared this overview of the activities carried out in 1992 by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, the affiliated regional institutes, which are identified in the report, and the associate institutes that work with the United Nations on crime prevention and criminal justice.
