Abstract
BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM, SUCH AS ITS ADMINISTRATION, OPERATIONS, AND PROBATION PAROLE, AND INSTITUTIONAL SYSTEMS IS PROVIDED IN AN EFFORT TO ORIENT THE VOLUNTEER. THE ROLES OF THE CITIZEN VOLUNTEER, SUCH AS SPONSOR, TUTOR, COUNSELOR, MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY OFFENDER REHABILITATION TEAR, OR OFFENDER ADVOCATE ARE REVIEWED. ALSO, VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE THE VOLUNTEER PROCESS, INCLUDING SCREENING, TRAINING, AND INSTITUTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. ADVICE FOR VOLUNTEERS IS PROVIDED AS WELL. FINALLY, A SECTION ON OFFENDER CHARACTERISTICS AND THE WAY OFFENDERS LOOK AT THE CITIZENS ACTION VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IS PROVIDED.
