Abstract
The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the mass media coverage of alleged corrupt actions of a certain politician at local government level in Iceland. Politicians in local government, as well as at the national level, are often criticized and accused of acting corruptly or at least immorally. So far, no politician in Iceland has been charged and sentenced for corruption with reference to the Icelandic Penal Code. However, some cases have received enormous attention in the mass media, resulting in resignations. One such case concerns a former mayor of a local government. He decided to step down after he was criticized for misusing power by favoring his company, a friend, and a family member and being accused of fraud.
