Abstract

This article provides an overview of the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program (COSSUP) Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Program, which supports jurisdictions in need with building and sustaining multidisciplinary public safety and public health responses to the use and misuse of illicit substances. It provides expertise to meet the specific needs and goals of projects by supporting a variety of strategies, including law enforcement and first responder diversion; overdose prevention; reentry and community corrections; peer recovery support services (PRSS); cross-site coordination; rural and tribal planning and capacity building; services for children and families victimized by the crisis; prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs); and more. The article describes the ways in which the COSSUP TTA Program can support communities, including: by identifying materials such as policies and procedures, and guidelines; by providing speakers for conferences and workshops; by facilitating strategic and cross-system planning; by advancing replication of best practices and innovative strategies; by increasing PDMP efficiencies and facilitating coordination with state and national stakeholders; and by facilitating peer-to-peer learning opportunities. It also provides information on how to request TTA as well as on COSSUP TTA providers.
