Abstract
ALTHOUGH STATE COURTS ARE ALREADY RECEIVING IMPORTANT AID FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION AND FROM STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING AGENCIES, THERE IS NEED FOR GREATER ASSISTANCE. THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR STATE COURTS, ON A GRANT FROM L E A A, PREPARED THIS GUIDEBOOK WHICH LISTS A SAMPLE OF CURRENT COURT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS, MOST OF WHICH HAVE BEEN OR MAY BE FUNDED UNDER FEDERAL GRANTS. EACH PROJECT LISTED CONTAINS A STATEMENT OF ITS GOALS, METHOD OF OPERATION AND BUDGET. THE SPECIFIC PROGRAMS SET OUT IN THE GUIDEBOOK ARE CONCERNED WITH THE FOLLOWING - -COURT ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT, SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY, EDUCATION AND TRAINING, PERSONNEL, BAIL, COMMUNITY PROBATION SERVICES, VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS, COURT ORGANIZATION AND LAW REFORM, FACILITIES, ARCHITECTURE AND SPACE UTILIZATION, AND APPELLATE COURTS. THE GUIDEBOOK IS DESIGNED TO FAMILIARIZE COURT PLANNERS WITH PRESENT COURT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS. CONTACT PERSONS MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE TO RESPOND TO INQUIRY ARE LISTED AT THE END OF EACH PROJECT.
