This report focuses on the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on Nevada’s future prison population numbers, including revised projections.

Abstract

This assessment led to 12 policy recommendations intended to assist Nevada in responding to the continued threat of COVID-19 and future public health crises. These are  also changes that reflect an earlier effort to develop a pre-pandemic plan to counter Nevada’s expanding prison population. This effort involved the expansion of local practices to reduce the density of prison and jail environments to mitigate the spread of airborne viruses and ensure corrections administrators can keep both staff and the incarcerated population safe. Further, to optimize cooperation and coordination between the various components.
