              This booklet presents information on crime and the criminal justice system in New Jersey, with emphasis on the adult criminal justice system.
          Abstract
              The nature and extent of crime in New Jersey are described. Additional sections focus on the responsibilities, functions, and agencies of the criminal justice system; the size and nature of their workloads; and their staff and budget. The final section discusses some of the major issues, developments, and trends currently confronting New Jersey's criminal justice system. These include strategic planning, jail and prison overcrowding, community supervision programs, supervised pretrial release, boot camp prisons, victim rights and services, drug prevention and enforcement, capital punishment, and community involvement and cooperation in criminal justice issues.
