The report was compiled from the Uniform Crime Reports data submitted by Florida's law enforcement agencies and represents an assessment of crime statistics relating to all areas of Florida for the year 1977.
Abstract
It covers State offense data, arrest data, and law enforcement personnel data. The volume of reported Index crimes (both violent and nonviolent) decreased 3.6 percent from 1976, and the 1977 crime rate decreased to 65.3 Index crimes for every 1,000 residents. Similarly, Index crimes decreased 3.8 percent in the Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas during 1977, and community crimes appear to be falling. Criminal arrests in Florida decreased by 9.9 percent. Four police officers were killed in the line of duty during 1977. As of October 3, 1977, the number of full-time law enforcement employees (sworn and civilian) in Florida increased 3.9 percent over 1976 to 24,404.
