Abstract
THIS STUDY BRIEFLY DISCUSSES THE MOST PREVALENT TRANSIT CRIMES - ROBBERY, AUTO THEFT, VANDALISM AND ASSAULT. EMPHASIZED IS THE LACK OF SCIENTIFIC CRITERIA ON SECURITY SYSTEM DESIGN AND REQUIREMENTS FOR MANPOWER RESOURCES. THE AUTHOR CITES THE NEED FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS TO IDENTIFY AND DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF THE CRIME PROBLEM TO ANALYZE CRIME DATA VIS-A-VIS THE SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS OF EACH CITY, AND TO DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT DEMONSTRATION ACTIVITIES TO TEST THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STRATEGIES.
