This report presents the most recent information available on the number of index crimes reported in New York State for the first half of 2011.
Abstract
The data addresses reported crimes from all agencies with complete reporting as of September 7, 2011; this represents approximately 97 percent of crime data reported for January through June 2011. All data are preliminary and subject to change. The index offenses include murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. Index crime in New York State declined 4.4 percent during the first 6 months of 2011 compared with the same period in 2010. Violent crimes declined almost 2 percent, and property crimes showed a 5-percent decrease. The largest decreases were reported in murders (14.5 percent) and motor-vehicle thefts (12.4 percent). Offense data are provided for New York City and each county. 3 tables and 1 figure
