Abstract

This document, from the State Office of the Attorney General in Texas, addresses the problem of cybercrime and presents advice to parents and other concerned parties on how to prevent children from being victimized by online predators. The information includes internet safety tips for parents, such as keeping the computer in a common room in the house, setting clear rules restricting the information posted online by children, and telling kids never to agree to meet someone that they have "met" online. Some of the internet safety tips for teens include not giving out personal information online, reporting unwanted solicitations to a parent or trusted adult, and not believing everything that they read online. A listing of acronyms used by teens in online chat rooms is provided along with a list of definitions for frequently used internet terms.
