REPORT ON TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO THE DADE COUNTY (FL) DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY'S ORGANIZED CRIME BUREAU IN DEVELOPING A MORE COMPREHENSIVE FILING AND RETRIEVAL SYSTEM FOR ORGANIZED CRIME INFORMATION.
Abstract
ON-SITE VISITS WERE CONDUCTED DURING TEN DAYS IN APRIL 1973. MEMBERS OF THE DADE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF POLICE SAFETY, MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND DADE COUNTY DATA PROCESSING DEPARTMENT WERE AMONG THOSE INTERVIEWED. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE SYSTEM FOR STORING AND UPDATING ORGANIZED CRIME INFORMATION WAS TIME-CONSUMING AND RETRIEVAL OF INFORMATION WAS A SLOW PROCESS. THE CONSULTANT RECOMMENDED IMPLEMENTING AN AUTOMATED ORGANIZED CRIME INFORMATION FILE AND OUTLINED A PARTICULAR COURSE OF ACTION, INCLUDING INITIAL CAPABILITIES AND COSTS, AND ANTICIPATED RESULTS. A NEW CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM AND SECURITY REQUIREMENTS WERE ALSO SUGGESTED. FORMS TO BE USED WITH THE NEW SYSTEM ARE ATTACHED.
