These three volumes present background and coding information and study instruments for the 1987 data set for the Drug Use Forecasting System, which aimed to estimate the prevalence of drug use among booked arrestees and to provide information for detecting changes in drug abuse trends.
Abstract
This study focused on drug use among male arrestees in 10 cities and among female arrestees in five cities. The data file includes the arrestee's current charge; the current level and type of drug use based on urinalysis and self-reports; and self-report data on age of first drug use, drug dependence, and educational history. The Drug Use Forecasting study is the first to provide objective measures of drug use in the past 24-48 hours in the population of booked arrestees. Data were collected from June through December 1987. The file contains 3,509 cases and 125 variables. Included are 2,993 male arrestees and 516 female arrestees. The sampling procedure limited the number of males while including all females regardless of charge. Tables, instrument, and codebook
