Abstract
THE POSITIONS OF SUCH ORGANIZATIONS AS THE NORTH CAROLINA CRIMINAL JUSTICE TRAINING AND STANDARDS COUNCIL, THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSOCIATIONS COUNCIL, AND THE GOVERNOR'S COMMITTEE ON LAW AND ORDER ARE REVIEWED WITH RESPECT TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION. IN EACH, SUPPORT FOR INCREASED CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION FROM INSTITUTIONS PROVIDING SEPARATE AND DISTINCT CRIMINAL JUSTICE DEPARTMENTS IS VOICED. ELEMENTS COMPRISING THE DISCIPLINE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE ARE REVIEWED, AND THE GROWTH OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION IS TRACED. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT A CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE BE ESTABLISHED, THAT PREFERENCE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE HIRING BE GIVEN TO THOSE WITH CRIMINAL JUSTICE DEGREES, AND THAT EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVES BE DEVELOPED FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE EMPLOYEES.
