A COMPARISON OF EX-OFFENDER SUPERVISION OF PAROLEES WITH THAT OF PROFESSIONAL PAROLE OFFICERS.
Abstract
A POOL OF 100 RECENTLY-RELEASED OR SOON TO BE RELEASED PAROLEES WERE RANDOMLY ASSIGNED, HALF TO REGULAR PAROLE SUPERVISION, AND HALF TO SUPERVISION BY AN ORGANIZATION OF EX-OFFENDERS, BONABOND, INC. DIFFERENCES IN THE GROUPS WERE CAUSED BY SIZE OF CASELOAD, EXPERIENCE, AND TECHNIQUES, BUT WERE CONSTRAINED BY PAY OF $1.30 PER DAY PAROLEE, AND ENFORCING REGULATIONS AND REPORTING VIOLATIONS. SUBJECT PERFORMANCE DATA ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED. RESULTS INDICATE A BETTER WORKING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PAROLEES AND EX-OFFENDERS. GREATER TOLERANCE OF PAROLEES BEHAVIOR BY THE EX-OFFENDERS MAY BE A FUNCTION OF CASELOADS, DIFFERENCES IN ABILITIES OR BACKGROUND, OR A COMBINATION OF THESE. A LIST OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE OPERATION OF THE CORRECTIONS PAROLE DIVISION IS GIVEN.
